Do you want to be a leader who is remembered for making a
difference?
Top quality
leaders are not born - they grow and
develop.
Can you name an elite athlete who does not have a
coach?
If you aspire to be a
quality leader, you should seriously consider being mentored and
coached.
My coaching program
is focused on Career Development. It has multiple benefits:
-
Your coach, Mel Phillips, has
35 years experience in education and over 20 years in
leadership. Mel had almost 13 years at Band 11
level.
-
Emerging leaders develop
sequentially from teaching focus, through operational and management focus to
strategically focused, long term,
futures-oriented leadership.
-
Career Management skills in
Managing Upwards (managing your supervisor), Professional Writing (especially
applications) and Influencing, Negotiation and Bargaining (incorporating Interview
Skills) round out an exciting program.
-
Completing an Action Learning
program based on 4 units Mel has developed can receive in-principle recognition of
4 units in University of Southern Queensland M Ed (Leadership) program. 50%
of your M Ed, just for performing successfully and demonstrating what you have
learned!
Mel offers a free 15 minute consultation to determine your goals and coaching
needs.
Teams also benefit from development so they can achieve "Top Team"
status.
Your Teams :
Do they work hard but sometimes not "click" or perform below expectations?
Is communication in your organisation as effective as you you would like?
Do you have a strategy for building your teams into high performing
units?
Mel is
accredited to use Team Management Systems profiles to build individuals and teams.
Leadership:
Are you developing the leaders your organisation
needs now and into the future?
Would you like an experienced professional to advise on leadership development?
Do you understand and effectively use your leadership style?
Are you prepared for the next level of leadership you aspire
to?
A Complete Leadership Development
Program:
"Outcomes Focused
Leadership"
The Outcomes Focused Leadership program is comprehensive. It is an
extension of the professional coaching program. However, I offer the opportunity to
take small steps in engaging you and your teams in the exciting process of
leadership and team development.
What have my clients achieved?
- A newly promoted small school Principal was coached to
grow from a teaching perspective to an organisational perspective and
develop skills that allowed him to work with adults across a variety
of functional areas. As coach, I worked with him to develop and
build fundamental leadership and management skills. A year
later he found himself being targeted for opportunities to act at
higher and higher levels, gaining much valuable experience that
helped accelerate him towards achieving his career goals much earlier
than expected.
- A hard working teaching principal was satisfied with
her professional progress but was concerned about the work-life
balance between family, personal relationships and professional
responsibilities. We developed a series of strategies for
managing personal priorities and work responsibilities. She
reports much greater balance in the work-life area, increased job
satisfaction and reduced stress.
- A successful, well respected primary principal
expressed concern that he was treading water professionally. He
was working hard, achieving well but needed something extra for his
career development. We had some focused conversations and then
some professional discussions around the concepts of leadership,
management, administration and achieving through teams.
Naturally, because of the expertise I have in the recruitment and
selection genre, some discussions headed in that direction. He
emailed recently to thank me for my input and also to say that I
deserved thanks for the success he had in being promoted to Band
10.
- The Executive Management Team in a large school found
difficulties with inter-personal relationships, misreading of key
communications and lack of tolerance between some key
individuals. Using a team approach, the Team Management Profile
was implemented. At the debriefing, the open, professional
sharing created warmth and openness that significantly enhanced the
operating environment. Follow-up work in Communication and
Problem Solving Skills led to everyone 'reading from the same page"
with the Principal reporting enhanced outcomes and much higher
performance levels from the team.
- A senior secondary principal rang me to organise some
professional chats. There was no need for a comprehensive
program of leadership development. He wanted to tap into my
many years experience as a successful Band 11 principal, my record of
involvement in projects of major significance and my entrepreneurial
approach to school leadership. Some of the conversations were
by phone while others were at my home base. When I visited him
at his school late in 2008, he stated that for his professional
outlook, our interactions were "pure gold". When he considered
the cost and the outcomes he now saw, he had bought himself "a
bargain".
